Fassion for the Mother of the Bride

Today’s mother of bride is vibrant, elegant and classy. On the wedding day, the limelight will be on your daughter, but it’s also a special and significant day in your life, so it’s only right that you should choose a dress that will make you look and feel special too.

Wedding protocol demands that the dress for the mother of the bride is chosen after the bride and her bridesmaids have chosen their gowns. Then it’s the turn of the mother of the bride to decide on her dress and to notify the mother of the groom, as it is considerate for them to complement their outfits.

Browsing through fashion magazines to select a style that would suit your age and style is a good idea. It will be a long, possibly strenuous, day and it’s crucial that you are comfortable in what you wear to your daughter’s wedding. Be attentive in selecting a fashion and color that will complement your figure. Be it a tea length gown, a chic suit or two-piece dress, the mother of the bride must be comfortable as it is one of the most special occasions in her life. Get your dress shopping done well in advance, as this will give you sufficient time to plan the alterations, accessories and such.

Traditionally, white is reserved for the bride. So that rules out white, ivory and off-white coloured clothing. Also, black and other eye-catching shades should be avoided. Some of the preferred colours for dresses for the bride’s mother are lilac, blue, pink, yellow and silver, and the mother of the bride should never wear a dress in a shade that will clash with the bride, or overpower her gown. Usually a theme is chosen by the bride for the wedding, and this will affect the colour worn by the close family members, so it’s a good idea for the mother of the bride to talk to her daughter and discuss any possible colour options.

Take care of yourself in the nerve-wrecking days of preparation. Remember, you need to look good as well, even though it is your daughter's wedding.
