ANDRE and ELMARIE McDONALD

Wedding Date: 17 January 2009
Wedding Venue: Vrede (FS) – Willie & Roenel Theron’s Farm – Langverwag Boerdery
Photographer: Carla Nel Photography

The Proposal:
It was on the 31 December 2007 in Cape St Francis. We were visiting his dad for the holidays. I remember Andre still had a cold. We were planning on going to the beach again as we did the previous year. This year we parked the “bakkie” beneath the light house and had our Sparkling wine as usual. A few minutes in the new year Andre requested me to stand with him next to where we were parked. He looked into my eyes and asked me……..should I really go on my knees’? Of course I said yes. I cried – he cried and then I phoned EVERYONE.

Elmari1Length of Engagement:
1 year 16 days 12 hours

Most of the Wedding Planning:
It was complicated – Andre and I started with the planning together but things changed and Andre’s sister Roenel thankfully took over

Problems on the Wedding Day:
The pastor that was suppose to marry me and Andre had a blackout and hit his head that required him to go to hospital. Luckily Vrede has more than one pastor.

My Wedding Day:
The wedding was held in Vrede. I believe that just the name of the place describes how a marriage should be….. We decided way in advance that only the closest family and friends should share this glorious day with us. In total there was about 31 guests (this includes our wonderful photographer which is a dear family friend as well). The ceremony was held in the garden of Langverwag Boerdery as well as the reception. The Elmari2weather was perfect and we only had a bit of rain way at the end after the majority of people left) There was soft music in the background, divine food and two little “flower girls running around pulling their dresses over their heads – to have the veil effect as the bride did. The reception was so relaxed as everyone changed into their casuals after the photo’s.

I felt like a little princess – I’ve always wanted to have a dress that looked like mine and the lady, Annelie Weideman that made my dress just blew me away! Andre and I had to see each other before the ceremony as the pastor wanted to meet us first, remember the one that would have married us originally had the accident – luckily neither of us are superstitious. Just as well – we did cry a lot when we first saw each other.

Our wedding in a nutshell – good food, good music, great company and a very in love married couple!
